The Whispering Woods
Deep in the Whispering Woods lived a grumpy Old Witch. She had a crooked nose and a cackle like dry leaves rustling. No one liked to go near her rickety house, especially not the little bear cubs.
Mama Bear always told her three cubs, Pip, Pop, and Pat, "Stay away from the Old Witch's side of the forest. Her berries are sour, and her honey is gone!" The cubs loved honey more than anything. "Mmm, honey!" they would rumble, "Grrr-umble!"
A Sweet Temptation
One sunny morning, Pip, Pop, and Pat were playing near the edge of the forbidden woods. Pip sniffed the air. "Sniff, sniff! I smell something sweet!" he whispered. Pop sniffed too. "Sniff, sniff! Honey! I think it's honey!" Pat's little nose twitched. "Grrr-umble! Honey!"
They saw a tiny, sparkling stream leading into the Old Witch's woods. And next to the stream, a huge, buzzing beehive! "Bzzzzzz!" went the bees. The cubs looked at each other. Mama Bear said no, but the honey smelled so good!
Slowly, carefully, they padded into the forbidden woods. Pip reached for the hive. "Grrr-umble!" Just then, a loud cackle echoed through the trees. "Heh-heh-heh! What have we here?"
A Sticky Surprise
The Old Witch appeared, her eyes gleaming. She had a big, empty pot in her hands. "Looking for honey, little bears? This is MY honey!" she screeched. Pip, Pop, and Pat froze. "Grrr-umble!" they whimpered.
The Old Witch laughed. "You can have some, but only if you help me fill my pot with forest water!" She pointed to the stream. The cubs looked at the stream, then at the honey. They really wanted the honey!
So, the three little cubs worked hard. They scooped water with their paws, splash, splash, splash, filling the witch's big pot. It was heavy work. "Grrr-umble, so heavy!" they grumbled. The Old Witch watched, cackling now and then.
When the pot was full, the Old Witch smiled a small, strange smile. "Good little bears," she said. She dipped a big spoon into the beehive and gave each cub a huge, sticky spoonful of the sweetest honey they had ever tasted. "Mmm, mmm, yummy!" they purred.
Then, the Old Witch shooed them away. "Go on now! And remember, sometimes helping an old witch can be sweet!" Pip, Pop, and Pat ran back to Mama Bear, their tummies full of honey. They didn't tell Mama Bear about the Old Witch, but they learned that day that sometimes even grumpy people can share a treat.
