The Summer Pastures
Little Aya lived in a big, round yurt. Her family moved with the seasons. They followed the green grass for their sheep. "Baa, baa!" went the sheep. "Moooo!" went the cows. This was their nomadic life. Aya loved the summer pastures. The sun was warm. The grass was tall.
Aya had a special lamb. Its wool was soft and white. She called it Ak-Bota. Ak-Bota loved to play. It would skip and jump. "Baa, baa, baa!" it cried. Aya would giggle. She gave Ak-Bota fresh grass every day.
Ak-Bota Wanders Off
One sunny morning, Aya was helping her mother. They were making *kumis*, a yummy drink. "Clink, clink!" went the spoons. Aya looked for Ak-Bota. "Ak-Bota? Baa, baa?" she called. No answer. She looked behind the yurt. No Ak-Bota. She looked near the stream. Still no Ak-Bota.
Aya felt a little scared. The big, wide steppe stretched far. Where could Ak-Bota be? Her heart went "thump-thump." Her mother saw her worried face. "Be brave, my little one," her mother said. "Look carefully."
Finding Ak-Bota
Aya took a deep breath. She walked towards the big, rocky hill. She looked under a big bush. "Baa, baa?" she whispered. No Ak-Bota. She walked a little further. The wind whistled, "Whoosh!"
Then, she heard a faint "Baa... baa..." It was quiet. It sounded small. Aya walked faster. Over a small rise, she saw it! Ak-Bota was stuck. Its little leg was tangled in some tall weeds. "Baa, baa! Maa!" cried Ak-Bota.
Aya carefully untangled the weeds. It was tricky. She pulled gently. "There, there, Ak-Bota," she cooed. Soon, Ak-Bota was free! It jumped up and licked Aya's hand. "Baa, baa, baa!" it cried happily. Aya hugged her lamb tight. They walked back to the yurt, hand in hoof, under the big, blue sky.
