There was a lazy shoemaker who did no work and couldn’t even break a blade of grass. This lazy shoemaker had three goats. Even though he knew that the cold was coming and winter was approaching, he did not make any preparations. He did not gather any food or hay for his goats. One night, a snowstorm hit, covering the ground with a white blanket. The goats could no longer graze in the fields as they used to; instead, they huddled together in their cold shed, shivering. The shoemaker, too lazy to even go outside, sent his wife:
— Go and see what’s happening with the goats, — he ordered her. His wife went to check and returned, saying:
— One goat has died. — The shoemaker replied:
— Well, with livestock, death is a part of it, — and continued to lie down. The next day, he again sent his wife to check on the goats.
— Another goat is dying, — she reported when she returned. The shoemaker rolled over to his other side and said:
— It’s natural for livestock to die, — and dismissed it. On the third day, the shoemaker sent his wife once more to check on the animals. She returned, telling him that the last goat had also frozen to death. At that, the shoemaker seemed relieved and rolled over:
— My dear, it seems the deaths in our livestock have come to an end, — he said.
