Aladdin and the Magic Lamp Fairy Tale

Aladdin and the Magic Lamp Fairy Tale

In ancient times, in one of the Persian cities, there lived a poor tailor. He had a wife and a son named Aladdin. One day, the tailor fell ill and passed away, leaving his wife and son as widows. One day, as Aladdin was going to the market to earn some money, a stranger merchant approached him and asked, “Are you the son of Hasan?” Aladdin replied, “Yes.” The merchant embraced Aladdin and cried, saying he was deeply saddened by the death of Hasan, who was his brother. Aladdin went home and told his mother everything that had happened. She was very surprised, as she had never known her husband had a brother. The next day, the merchant came to Aladdin's house with many gifts. He was crying so much that Aladdin's mother thought, “He must truly be my husband's brother.” “I will raise Aladdin to be a true merchant,” the merchant said, looking fondly at the boy. The next day, the merchant took Aladdin to the market. They traveled outside the city and walked for a long time until they reached the foot of a mountain. The merchant ordered Aladdin to gather dry wood to start a fire. As they lit the fire, the ground heated up and split open, revealing a staircase leading down. The merchant said to Aladdin: “If you go down the stairs, you will find great wealth before you. Take what you desire, but just bring me an old lamp made of brass.” The dungeon was filled with treasures. Despite the wealth, Aladdin took the brass lamp. When he tried to climb back up, he found that the staircase was gone. Aladdin begged the merchant to pull him up, but the merchant demanded the lamp. Aladdin refused to give it to him. The merchant, furious, uttered a magical phrase, and the underground passage closed off. It turned out that this man was not Aladdin's brother, but an evil sorcerer from Ifrik. Knowing that only Aladdin could bring out the treasure and the magical lamp, he had come on purpose. Left underground, Aladdin, angry, began to rub the lamp. At that moment, a giant genie emerged from the lamp, saying: “What is your command, my master?” Initially terrified, Aladdin soon regained his composure and said, “Take me home quickly!” Before he could finish his sentence, Aladdin found himself back at home. He recounted everything to his mother. He rubbed the brass lamp and asked the genie for roasted chicken and other delicious foods. Thus, they escaped the pangs of hunger and lived without any hardship. A few days later, while walking through the city square, Aladdin heard a herald announcing that Princess Budur, the Sultan's daughter, was going to the bath and that no one was to see her. The crowd began to push and flee from the square. Having heard much about Budur's unparalleled beauty, Aladdin closed his eyes and imagined the beautiful Budur inside the tent. “She is truly a stunning beauty,” Aladdin thought. “I must marry this girl no matter what.” Upon returning home, he called the genie and had a bag of precious stones brought to him. He gave the bag to his mother and asked her to go to the Sultan to propose for his daughter's hand. When alone, he wanted to see the princess again, so he asked the genie: “I want to see Princess Budur!” And just like that, Aladdin found himself in Budur’s room. The young man and the girl met and fell in love. However, the princess thought, “I must be dreaming,” and told her mother about the dream. Aladdin’s mother went to the Sultan and asked for his daughter’s hand for her son, revealing the contents of the tray. The Sultan was very pleased with the gift. However, he wanted to check how wealthy Aladdin truly was, and declared, “If Aladdin truly wants to marry Budur, he must bring me forty trays filled with the same precious items, carried by forty maidens, along with forty slaves to guard the treasures. Convey this message to your son.” The widowed woman relayed the Sultan’s message to Aladdin. Aladdin summoned the genie, and the Sultan's conditions were fulfilled in an instant. He arrived at the palace with forty maidens carrying trays of precious items and forty slaves wielding gleaming diamond swords. Having never seen such wealth and procession before, the Sultan agreed to give his daughter to Aladdin. Thus, Aladdin and Princess Budur were married. The Sultan organized a grand feast in honor of his daughter and son-in-law. Guests arrived from all directions, and the celebration continued late into the night. Aladdin did not want to take his bride to the dilapidated house. As the celebration was nearing its end, he discreetly rubbed the lamp and commanded the genie to build a palace unlike any seen on earth before. Within moments, a magnificent palace made of gold and silver bricks, with a roof of pure jade, was ready. Aladdin took his bride to explore the palace. His mother prepared a feast for them. The next day, the Sultan came to see the palace. He admired its beauty and grandeur. Then, news spread that the Sultan's daughter had married the son of a tailor, a tale never heard before. The princess and the young man found happiness and lived in the magnificent palace. However, news of Aladdin's marriage to Princess Budur and their residence in the grand palace also reached the ears of the wicked sorcerer. Learning that Aladdin was alive and possessed the magical lamp, he quickly gathered his things and headed to the city where the young man lived. He pondered how to retrieve the lamp and devised a plan. The next day, disguised as a merchant, the sorcerer wandered the city, proclaiming that he would exchange old lamps for new ones. This way, he eventually reached Aladdin’s palace. Aladdin had gone hunting, leaving Princess Budur alone at home. Hearing the merchant's announcement, Budur wished to surprise Aladdin by exchanging the old lamp for a new one. Of course, she had no idea that the old lamp was magical. Thus, Budur's servant hurriedly exchanged the magical lamp for a new brass one. As soon as the sorcerer obtained the lamp, he vanished from the palace. Rubbing the lamp, he commanded the genie to transfer Aladdin’s palace, everyone in it, and himself to Ifrik. His command was executed instantly. The next morning, when the Sultan woke up and looked out the window, he saw that the palace was gone! No matter how much he rubbed his eyes and looked around, the palace was nowhere to be seen. The Sultan realized that his daughter had fallen into some trouble. Terrified, he ordered his vizier, “Bring me Aladdin!” At that moment, Aladdin was returning from his hunting trip. The guards brought him before the Sultan. The Sultan shouted at Aladdin: “You are a sorcerer and a liar! Where is my daughter? Where has your magnificent palace disappeared?” He declared, “If you do not find Budur within three days, you will lose your head!” Aladdin set off on a journey to find Budur. After three days of relentless searching, he reached Ifrik. Through inquiries, he eventually found his palace, although the sorcerer had already left. Aladdin entered the palace and saw the weeping princess. Budur was overjoyed to see Aladdin and rushed towards him. She told him how the sorcerer deceived her, saying, “Do not wait for your husband; he has become the prey of a wild beast. I will be your husband.” Aladdin said to Budur, “Now listen carefully: when the sorcerer arrives, speak to him sweetly. Tell him, ‘I will marry you.’ Invite him to share dinner with you. While he is eating, sprinkle this sleeping powder into the wine. When he falls asleep, I will kill him.” Budur followed Aladdin's instructions to the letter. After finishing his meal, the sorcerer was served wine with the sleeping powder sprinkled in it. Without any suspicion, he drank it and fell into a deep sleep. Budur clapped her hands to signal Aladdin. He rushed in and, with his sword, beheaded the sorcerer. Then he summoned the genie and ordered, “Take the palace back to its original place!” In an instant, the palace stood back in its original location. Thus, Aladdin, the tailor’s son, and Princess Budur reunited and lived a long, happy life together.
