Aldar Kose Fairy Tale

Aldar Kose Fairy Tale

One day, Aldar Kose was walking when he stumbled upon a couple of women boiling bones. After greeting them, Aldar Kose said, "Let me play a trick!" He then turned to the women and asked:

— "Ladies, I have a piece of raw meat. Could I put it in your pot to cook it?" The women replied:

— "Sure, go ahead and put it in!"

Aldar Kose then said:

— "As long as your bones don’t eat my meat," he warned.

— "Oh dear, what nonsense! Bones eating meat? Go ahead, if they eat it, we’ll pay you back with a lamb," they reassured him.

Then Aldar Kose slyly put the bones into the pot. After a while, he checked and said, "See, I told you this would happen, now give me my lamb." The women, astonished, exclaimed:

— "Oh my God, what a surprise!" They ended up giving Aldar Kose a lamb. As he took the lamb, he thought to himself:

— "I really fooled those women," and as he was leading his lamb, he came across a wealthy man's village. He greeted the rich man:

— "Hello, my friend! How are you? Is your family well?" The rich man replied:

— "Thanks to God, all is well," while scratching his belly. He then asked:

— "What’s with this lamb?"

— "Oh, it’s nothing, my wealthy friend. I’m just bringing back a lamb that a certain rich man took from me last year," he replied. Then he asked the rich man:

— "Can I add my lamb to your flock?"

— "Of course, go ahead," the rich man agreed.

Aldar Kose added:

— "As long as your sheep don’t eat my lamb," he added.

— "Oh Aldar Kose, what nonsense! Sheep eat sheep? Just let it be, if they do eat, I’ll give you all the lambs they consume," the rich man replied.

Aldar Kose let his lamb mingle with the rich man’s sheep and stayed as a guest at his house. At night, he secretly went to the flock, caught his lamb, slaughtered it, and fed it to ten fat sheep. After finishing, he threw the leftover meat to the dogs and returned home, going to bed. In the morning, after having tea, he took the rich man to the flock, but Aldar Kose's lamb was nowhere to be found. The rich man looked around and saw several sheep with blood on their mouths. Aldar Kose then said:

— "Oh my friend, what I told you has come true. I mentioned this yesterday, and I knew this would happen," he said. The rich man, shocked, exclaimed:

— "Oh God, what is this?" He saw the bloodied sheep and, in a panic, gave Aldar Kose ten sheep. Aldar Kose, thinking he had fooled the rich man again, drove away his sheep happily. On his way, he encountered people carrying a beautiful girl who had just died. He approached them and said:

— "What will you do with this girl? After all the trouble, why not give me my ten sheep and take this girl?" He tricked them into giving him the girl in exchange for his sheep, then took her to a secluded place in another village, set up two wooden poles, and placed her under them. He then went back to his village and told the local girls and women:

— "I brought a beautiful girl from another village and placed her under this hill," he announced. As the girls and women rushed over, Aldar Kose warned them:

— "My wife is young and unwell, so don’t poke or push her around," he instructed. The girls, believing him, approached the girl, but when one girl pushed the seemingly lifeless girl, she fled back to Aldar Kose, saying:

— "Your wife has died!" Aldar Kose dropped his meal and rushed over, pretending to grieve:

— "You killed her!" he cried, dramatically weeping and embracing her. He then told the villagers:

— "You must compensate me, your daughter killed my wife!" They refused to pay, leading to a heated argument, and eventually, they took the matter to the judge. After questioning both sides, the judge decided to give the girl who had pushed her to Aldar Kose. Then Aldar Kose, accompanied by the girl’s brother, took her back to his village.

In the end, Aldar Kose’s joy at taking the girl home inspired him to sing a song:

— "Oh, my bony shoulder — one lamb, One lamb means ten fat sheep. Ten fat sheep — a dead wife, A dead wife — a living wife!" He sang, taking the girl back to his village, celebrating with songs, and fulfilling his desires, as the old tales say.
