One day, a sparrow flew in and perched on a farmer's barn, starting to peck at the scattered grains. Seeing this, the farmer's cat hid behind a corner, preparing to pounce. As the cat waited, it suddenly sprang out and lunged at the sparrow.
Holding it tightly by its wing, the cat said:
— Now I can have a good feast!
— Oh, Mr. Cat, have some shame! You’re forgetting to wash yourself! Both your master and his wife eat only after washing up, — said the sparrow.
— That does make sense, — replied the cat, and it proceeded to wash itself, bringing its front paw to its face to dry off.
At that moment, the sparrow, not thinking twice, made a quick escape! It flapped its wings and flew away! The cat was furious. Since then, all cats have started to wash themselves after eating.
