The King's Two Daughters Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, there were two daughters of a king. The king loved both of his daughters dearly. He provided them with everything they wanted and raised them without denying them anything. However, as they grew older, their personalities began to change. The elder daughter was always gloomy, while the younger daughter remained cheerful. One day, the king summoned the wise man Ulughbek and said:

— Wise man, I have two daughters. My younger daughter is always cheerful. But my elder daughter never smiles, and no one knows the cause of her distress, — he said.

— My king, if you allow me, I would like to stay at your palace for a few days. I want to observe your daughters’ behavior and then provide you with an answer, — Ulughbek replied. The king granted him permission.

Ulughbek conversed with both daughters every day and shared stories with them. He noticed that the cheerful younger daughter always thought about good things before going to sleep. In the morning, she woke up thinking only of good people and good deeds. On the other hand, the elder daughter went to bed recalling all the hardships and misfortunes she had faced throughout the day. In the morning, she would also remember the unpleasant events from the previous day.

Ulughbek returned to the king and said:

— My king, life is like a mirror. A person sees themselves in the mirror as they wish to be seen, and the mirror reflects that image. If we think about the good aspects of life, it appears beautiful to us. Your elder daughter only thinks about the negative aspects of life. Therefore, her mind is filled with negativity, and she quickly succumbs to anger and irritation. She remains frowning. From now on, she should think only good thoughts before going to sleep. When she wakes up in the morning, she should do so with good wishes and positive intentions. Then, the heaviness in her heart will quickly fade away, — he advised.

From that day on, the elder daughter began to think only of good things.
